Summary

The last CRT monitor produced by Apple, the 17" Studio Display ADC is a work of art. Also known as model M7768, It has a transparent case, with most of the chassis components visible (and color coordinated). The monitor features a 17" Mitsubishi Diamondtron tube and supports up to an 80 kHz horizontal scan rate.

Sold for use with the Power Mac G4, control of the Studio 17 ADC was integrated into the computer's operating system, to the point where the monitor won't even power on without a signal from the computer. Adjusting the monitor's geometry, color, and brightness setting is done via the monitor control panel.

Notes

This monitor uses Apple's proprietary and short-lived ADC connector. Superficially similar to DVI, it contains video signals (VGA and DVI), USB, and DC power all in one connector. Unfortunately, this limits its usefulness, since it can only be used with Macintosh computers with native ADC output. Because it uses the ADC's analog output pins, it is not compatible with the Apple A1006 DVI to ADC adapter.

A homebrew VGA to ADC adapter board has been designed, which significantly increases the monitor's compatibility. However, you still need a compatible version of Mac OS in order to use and configure it. Information can be found here:
