Sold as a "multimedia monitor", the HP M50 has a built-in microphone at the top of the tube and attachment points for side-mounted speakers.

A similar monitor, the M40, was also produced. It used the same case design, but with a slightly smaller 14" tube.

While the manual states 100Hz vertical, it can reach 120Hz vertical with low enough resolutions such as 560x420 @120Hz while still being usable.

The 1999 model has a significantly different rear sticker and a different chassis code C5B, it was also manufactured in Taiwan instead of Mexico
