Summary

High resolution broadcast monitor with a 20" (19" viewable) 600 TVL resolution. This 17R has a lower TVL than the 20RH despite using the exact same 865 TVL Panasonic tube. This is because the RGB bandwidth is slightly lower in the 17R, resulting in a slightly lower addressable TVL.

Very well built, with a metal frame and a cast steel front bezel. Unlike the 20RH, the 17R does not have a pull-out drawer in the front and does not have an OSD. All adjustments are analog potentiometers inside and outside of the monitor.

Notes

The tube pitch is marked as 0.43mm in Ikegami's specifications but Panasonic themselves confirmed the pitch of this tube to be 0.40mm with a maximum resolvable resolution of 865 TVL. The actual TVL will be limited by the bandwidth and other circuitry of a given chassis, which is why this monitor is only marked as 600 TVL despite having an 865 TVL tube inside. Source

Unlike most monitors, chroma levels are adjustable in RGB mode.

As with other Ikegami monitors, the BNC inputs are not auto terminating. 75 ohm terminators are required for proper brightness levels.

Two higher resolution versions of this monitor, the TM20-20RH (same tube as this 17R but higher resolvable resolution of 700TVL) as well as the TM20-30RH which features a finer pitch, dual focus tube.
