NEC MultiSync XL (JC-2001VMA)

Summary

The MultiSync "XL" is among the first 19" PC VGA monitors. Despite having a nearly identical appearance to the smaller NEC Multisync II (JC-1402), it does not share the same scan range. The XL does not scan lower than 21.8kHz horizontal. The max horizontal range is 50kHz.

The target market for this monitor was desktop publishing and CAD.

MultiSync XL, the Intelligent Monitor, from NEC, is a high resolution color monitor that automatically adjusts to graphics board scanning frequencies from 21.8 kHz to 50 kHz. MultiSync XL gives IBM PC, PC/XT, PC/AT, Personal System/2 and PC compatibles users crisp text and vivid color graphics displays when used with any of the IBM graphics adapters (the MCGA, VGA, EGA or PGC). MultiSync XL can also be used with other IBM compatible graphics adapters to provide IBM users with the widest range of color monitor compatibility and caраbility available in the market place.

Notes

Similar to the original Multisync I (JC-1401), the tube has a smaller viewable area than what is exposed by the bezel. 20" of area is exposed by the bezel but only 19" of the tube is considered viewable area by NEC due to the curvature.
