• Unit would not turn on. F1001 was blown, C1004 82uF 200V was open, and Q1001 was shorted across all three pins. Replacing all these did not fix the power supply though; when using a dim bulb it stayed on full bright in standby and all the secondary rails were low. Even though Q1002 tested good out of circuit it was actually bad and as time went on it eventually did test bad out of circuit. Replacing it fixed the power supply rails and the ended the dim bulb issue. Note that when F1001 blows the service manual has a whole list of component that it says to replace including Q1001 and Q1002. Unit would still not turn on. See next note.
• After the secondary power rails were restored as noted above, when plugged in the VCR drum would immediately spin up to high speed without stopping, the front leds would all turn on and stay on, and some of the VCR gears would sometimes move back and forth repeatedly. Cause undetermined.
