Repair Notes

Unit pictured would try to turn itself on as soon as it was plugged in, and then repeatedly do a cycle of clicking without remaining on. Resistor R1838 had started to disintegrate, had a burn mark beneath it on the PCB, and tested at 70K out of circuit when it should be 150Ω. Electrolytic C1310 had gone out of spec on the primary side of the power supply. Both the resistor and capacitor were replaced, but this did not fix the power on issue. Regulator Q1802 was shorted on the secondary side and replacing it fixed the power on issue. The silkscreened indicators for the base and emitter of Q1802 are incorrect/swapped on the bottom of the D board.

The VCR portion worked for a few seconds and then started emitting smoke. After that it would not playback video and would eat tapes when attempting to eject.
