Summary

This is a limited 25th anniversary edition 5" Sony Trinitron color CRT.

2500 of these were made to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Trinitron brand. The original packaging from Sony was a gift box wrapped with ribbon, as seen in the packing list page of the Service Manual.

There is a serial number stamped on the back of every unit to denote what # it is out of 2500 total.

Notes

  • BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN REASSEMBLING THIS TV. The handle piece on the inside of the top case has a tendency to pull on the speaker wire when you close the case back up and it could rip the connector off the PCB if you're not careful. One of the ones I was given for repair had the connector ripped off inside from someone forcing the case closed.
  • The internal adjustment pots are labeled in diagrams in the Gallery below. There is adjustments for H/V size, H/V center, tilt, and bow.
  • If you want to hook the tube up to a CRT tester, the pinout for the tube is printed on the neckboard. The heater voltage is 5v.
  • There are capable of extremely sharp picture quality, even on composite. If yours isn't sharp I sugggest opening it so you can adjust the focus dial on the back of the Flyback. You should also turn the Sharpness setting to low/off in the OSD menu to prevent artificial shadows on the edges of things.

Common Repairs

  • Black and white picture (no color demodulation) - replace the 52-pin Sanyo LA7672 jungle chip on the video processor board. Be very delicate with the removal process, the pads are small, fragile, and surrounded by other SMD components. I suggest using low melt solder and a hot air station.
  • No sound (or intermittent sound) - the speaker header connection is probably broken inside. Carefully disassemble the unit and inspect the 2-pin speaker header on the vertical board near the front of the CRT. Check to make sure the pins are not broken and the solder joints for them aren't broken either. Carefully bend the pins slightly apart from each other to make the plug fit tighter when you put it back together.
