Summary

Cute little Sony color 5" CRT. These were only sold in Japan. One interesting feature is that the 6AD3 has an integrated FM broadcast antenna that allows you to listen to the audio output on any FM device tuned to the correct channel.

Notes

• OEM power adapter is the Sony AC-600 17v 1.9A 100VAC (see images below). You CANNOT use this with 120VAC US power, it will overheat (in fact they seem to overheat even at 100VAC, personally I don't recommend using them even if you have one). You can DIY a power adapter if you can find the right Sony adapter (EIAJ-05) - they are usually included with "universal" power adapters on Amazon. Your best bet of finding a 17v power adapter is eBay - Try to find one that is at least 2.5A to allow for inrush current and then splice on an EIAJ-05 connector or use a barrel jack adapter. Weirdly some of the EIA-5 adapters I bought had a narrow center pin that wasn't large enough to make contact in the 6AD3's socket. Make sure yours has a thick center pin.
• If you want to hook the tube up to a CRT tester, the pinout for the tube is printed on the neckboard. The heater voltage is 5v.
• There are capable of extremely sharp picture quality, even on composite. If yours isn't sharp I suggest opening it so you can adjust the focus dial on the back of the Flyback.

Common Repairs

• No Power (red standby or green power light but otherwise dead) - Replace all power board caps including the two large 1800uF filter caps. Make sure to clean up any black residue off the board. BE VERY CAREFUL RECAPPING THE PCBS IN THE 6AD3. IT IS VERY EASY TO CAUSE TRACE DAMAGE OR RIP OUT VIAS. RECOMMEND SENDING TO A PROFESSIONAL.
• No Power (no lights) - Inspect both fuses on power supply board.
