Summary

Widescreen 15kHz (non-multisync) Pro CRT from Sony. Has modes for 16:9 and 4:3. Primary use case is to display anamorphic 16:9 content. Advantages it potentially has over a consumer equivalent from Sony include: beam current feedback (for picture size stability in rapid changes of brightness), configurable color temperatures (D65, 93, or custom from 3200 to 10000K), RGB/YPbPr input, and OSD controls for geometry adjustment.

You can find a list of games that support anamorphic 16:9 here.

The tube is listed as using P-22 phosphor but a tube designation number has not been confirmed from any owners yet.

Notes

The low TVL (300) is pretty disappointing for a widescreen 18" display. I have not viewed one of these in person yet to fully validate how good/bad they are but the specs are low enough to caution me away from paying a high price for one.

The front part of the monitor (where the bezel ends) is wider than the metal case in the back. This is because Sony wanted this monitor to be rackable but a widescreen monitor exceeds standard rack width. Therefore Sony sold a slide rail kit so that the monitor could be mounted as far into a rack as possible, with just the first few inches of tube depth sticking out of the rack.

Like most widescreen Trinitrons, the AG pitch is variable - 0.65mm at center, 0.75mm at the edges.

Optional accessories:

  • BKM-101C (component serial digital interface kit (video))
  • BKM-102 (component serial digital interface kit (audio))

  • SLR-103A (slide rail)
