Summary
2007 Super//Fluo remake of the 1989 Brionvega Algol color TV, styled by Valerio Cometti. This Military Green example is # 179 of 199 total made. The non-limited edition came in other colors.
The older 1989 Algol (styled by Marcio Zanuso) was a color remake of the original 1964 Brionvega Algol monochrome TV. The original 1964 design was done by Marco Zanuso and Richard Sapper.
Internally, the chassis is made by Philips and the tube by Samsung.
The TV supports both RGB and composite/S-Video via the SCART port on the rear. To use composite or S-Video, you'll need the included SCART to RCA/SVHS adapter. Replacements can be easily found online.
The limited edition Algols came in a flight case made specially for the Brionvega Algol. It also came with a booklet showing the history of the Brionvega brand.

Notes
Service Mode instructions are on page 17 of the Service Manual PDF.
Similar to other TVs we have documented with this same TDA9942 jungle chip, the picture has a horizontal shift to the left. The picture height also seems calibrated for PAL even on the models intended for use in other regions. Both of these problems can be corrected in the service menu.
Internally the design is clearly custom made for Brionvega - it is built quite nicely. The chips are mostly Philips-made. The TDA8842 jungle has digital adjustments for geometry and color, which can be accessed via the service menu.
Inside there are no adjustments available other than screen and focus on the flyback.
When looking online to purchase one of these, you need to take care to note which version you are looking at (1960s vs 1980s vs late 2000s). The original 1960s ones are monochrome RF-only, the 1980s are color but RF-only, and the late 2000s ones are color with modern inputs (including RGB).
To take apart the TV:
- First turn it upside down and remove 4 screws - two large ones by the screen edge, and two small ones at the rear.
- Then you must take the red IR sensor cover off - you bend it outwards to release the two notched tabs and pull it towards you. Once removed, you can slide the IR receiver PCB out towards you. The bottom cover then lifts completely off.
- Next, turn the TV right-side up and remove 4 screws holding down the top shell - two on either side. They are all the same size.
- There is one long machine screw located under the handle - you will need a long Philips screwdriver to access it.
Once you remove that last screw, the top cover will lift off.
