Picture quality is decent by default, but the red push is very severe. If you wish to disable it, JVC sets with component inputs made from 2002-onward can have red push disabled by setting service menu option "NTSC-MAT" to 0.
Now after you turn this setting off, there may still be some saturation boosting of the reds and blues, so turn down the color in the standard menu until those tones look correct. After that, go back into the service menu and perform a white balance.
I also advise to turn off VSM and sharpening in the standard menu. Once you do all these tweaks, the image should look much better.
