Notes

Component video quality is great once you dial in the set. Composite also has a 3-line digital comb filter. Jungle chip cannot be tapped for RGB.

By default there is some major red push. To disable it, set service menu option "NTSC MAT" to "0" and that will bring down the red saturation boosting a bit. Be aware that this is not just one universal setting to adjust, but rather is saved separately for different inputs, picture modes, and color temperatures. To disable for all combinations, see full instructions under Mods & Repair Guides. You will still need to turn down color saturation in the service menu to bring down the over-saturation of reds and blues further until tones look normal. Lastly, perform a white balance to get the picture looking just right.

There is a new picture mode for the sets of this model year called TheaterPro D6500K which is closer to a 6500K color temperature. It even has a dedicated button on the remote to select it.

JVC sets usually had multiple tubes that were compatible with their chassis, each varying in quality. This particular set is packing an RCA tube made in the USA. While American-made RCA tubes are known for wearing out noticeably faster compared to other brands, usually developing very blurry corners. Fortunately, this one seems to be fairly low hours and looks good. At the end of the day, however, tube wear is the largest contributing factor for tube performance, not necessarily manufacturer.
