The default sharpness level is such that it causes ringing; to mitigate, lower sharpness signifcantly. Also like on many consumer sets, gray balance was skewed blue and can be corrected by lowering BCUT in the service menu. AXIS and DCOL affect general color balance.

On the set pictured, the S-Video mod incurs mild chroma dots when CROM (chroma trap) is turned off (set to zero) in the service menu (suggesting Y/C crosstalk somewhere in the circuit), so I left it enabled. This will make hard edges lightly softer, but will remove the chroma dots. This setting has to be off for composite regardless.
