Summary

Sony's 9L series was the last revision of their 8" PVM lineup. They use the same tubes, yokes, and flybacks as their PVM-804X predecessors, but have an updated and modernized chassis design. Adjustments are made with an on screen menu rather than physical potentiometers. The frame is made largely of metal and contains very little plastic. The PVM-9L1 is equivalent to the PVM-8040, and uses the same 250 TVL Trinitron tube.

The 9L1 was the most basic of the L series PVMs, and is missing many of the features of the 9L2 and 9L3 models. It has a single composite & S-video input, and is missing the input card slots required for RGB or component input. Other features such as the carry handle and 12v battery power were also omitted.

Notes

The PVM-9L3 uses a TDA9394H jungle chip, which has a set of optional RGB input pins. It's likely that it can be modified for RGB using the same method as the PVM-14L1 and PVM-20L1.
