Summary

Sony's 9L series was the last revision of their 8" PVM lineup. They use the same tubes, yokes, and flybacks as their PVM-804X predecessors, but have an updated and modernized chassis design. Adjustments are made with an on screen menu rather than physical potentiometers, and the frame contains very little plastic. The PVM-9L3 is equivalent to the PVM-8044/8045Q, and uses the same 450 TVL HR Trinitron tube. It is mostly identical to the PVM-9L2, which uses a coarser pitch 250 TVL tube.

Unlike the older models, the 9L3 and 9L2 do not have built-in RGB or component video inputs. Instead, they have a slot for optional input cards. RGB & Component video inputs can be added using the BKM-129X card, while the BKM-120X card provides digital SDI.

Notes

The BKM-129X input card that's required for RGB input on this monitor is difficult to find. Fortunately, however, it has been reverse engineered by Martin Heijnfelt and clone cards are now available from Retro Upgrades in the UK. In addition to the original BNC format, Martin has designed an updated card that features VGA and SCART inputs - this version can be seen on the monitor in these photos.
