This "A" variant differs from the base model in that it uses an RCA tube made in Mexico as opposed to a Toshiba tube. Now the American-made AEJ tubes by RCA seem to be inferior to the Mexico-made ones in that they seem to age more poorly by developing blurriness in the corners more quickly. Now this could just be chocked up to overall wear, but I have seen examples and comparisons of these tubes to suggest that they may in fact just use different quality electron guns.
