Repair Notes

• One unit exhibited vertical collapse. Pin 2 of the vertical IC was too high at around 19VDC instead of 15. There was no waveform on pin 7 and DC voltage was .6 instead of 2 to 3. Electrolytics tested fine. Replacing vertical IC LA7841 fixed it. (E.K.)
• This model uses the same tube and chassis as models in JVC's 2002 D-Series line. Note that the different tube options (designated by the model number suffix which is the letter after the serial number on the back label, in this case 'R') have very different vertical yoke inductance and so swapping different tubes may result in vertical size issues. Notes

The jungle chip inside this set cannot be tapped for RGB, but thankfully it has very clean component video quality.

These sets used multiple tubes from a variety of manufacturers. The one in this particular model featured in this article was made by RCA/Thomson.

This set has "red push," a kind of saturation boost for reds that may not be to your liking. Follow this guide HERE to disable it.

Composite 240p Performance

For composite decoding this set uses a Toshiba TC90A49P, a 3-line digital comb filter. Depending on the console/revision, dot artifacting ranges from slight to severe, and blending effects may be broken. If the set has an s-video or component YPbPr input, then using a good external notch filter to decode composite instead and sending that to the set would blend all dithering patterns and avoid nearly all dot artifacts (full guide here).
