Notes

To disable red push, go into the service menu and set option "NTSC MAT" to 0. Be aware that this is not just one universal setting to adjust, but rather is saved separately for different inputs, picture modes, and color temperatures. To disable for all combinations, see full instructions under Mods & Repair Guides.

There were three tube models used in this set, and the letter beside the serial number designated who the tube maker was; Thomson-RCA (R), Toshiba (Y), and Matsushita/Panasonic (M). While the suffixes to the serial number on the back label indicate who the tube manufacturer was, the picture quality of a set is determined by evaluating the picture itself and NOT by simply checking the suffix on the back label.

There is a 3-position vertical position switch internally at the rear of the main PCB; the left-most position is the lowest vertical position and the right-most position is the highest.

Display

  • According to JVC, this TV has 750 lines of "Horizontal Resolution".
    • JVC's advertised "Horizontal Resolution" measurement is considered to be 33% higher than the TVL of the screen. This is because horizontal resolution measures line count across the full width of the screen, unlike TVL.
  • The Digital 3-Line Comb Filter has slightly less artifacting than the 2-Line Comb Filter found in earlier models of the D-Series, but it is not as clean as a good notch filter for composite 240p which can be externally decoded and sent to the component input1.

Inputs

  • The A/V input can be changed using the Menu button on the front panel, but a dedicated Input button on the remote makes it more convenient.
    • Input 1 is a shared S-Video/Composite input on the rear, with S-Video priority (Composite will not work even if your S-Video signal source is turned off).
    • Input 2 is either a Component input or a Composite input, on the rear. The "Component-In" toggle option in the menu determines which connection will be active.
    • Input 3 is a single Composite input on the front.

Sound

  • Two 5W front firing stereo speakers.
  • "BBE High Definition Audio" and "Hyper Surround" makes the D-Series sound better than JVC's lower end consumer TV offerings at the time.
  • The audio out RCA jacks on the rear support only Fixed audio.
